Do you ever get an idea and it won’t relax until you give it your attention?
Well I get those.
They usually manifest as images and they sit on the shelves of my mind waiting. Some are shy. They sit on the folds my grey matter for days and weeks and sometimes even years. Waiting. They have stamina. They’ll wait for me as I go on through life busily and every now and again whisper a reminder.
Others are eager and relentless. They usually burn like a flame. They have to be created here and now. If I don’t have time or wait too long they go somewhere else and when I finally check up on them they are gone. Split while I slacked off. If I take them off the shelf in time and tend to their beckoning when I’m not ready, the results are sloppy and they leave me for a more equipped host.
There is only one way of getting it right with these fickle ideas.
I must tend to them quickly and fully. When I do we’re both beautifully happy.
This idea was of the burning kind. It simply had to be put on digital paper as soon as possible. I enjoyed it immensely.
Elizabeth Gilbert talks about this creative process in her wonderful book “Big Magic”. I thought the book depicts the creative process amazingly.
